Features Guide

LightRSS is a modern RSS reader that helps you aggregate all your favorite feeds in one place. This documentation provides detailed instructions on how to use all features of LightRSS.

Feed Management

Adding a Single Feed

  1. Go to the Feed Management page (/app/feeds)
  2. In the "Add Feed" tab, enter the RSS Feed URL
  3. (Optional) Select or create a category to organize your feed
  4. Click the "Add Feed" button

The system will automatically validate the Feed URL and start fetching articles in the background.

Adding Multiple Feeds

If you have multiple feeds to add, you can use the batch add feature:

  1. Switch to the "Batch Add" tab
  2. In the text box, enter one Feed URL per line
  3. (Optional) Select a category for all feeds
  4. Click the "Batch Add" button

The system will add all feeds sequentially and display the results.

OPML Import

If you previously used another RSS reader, you can import all your feeds at once using an OPML file:

  1. Switch to the "OPML Import" tab
  2. Click the "Select File" button and choose your OPML file
    • Or paste the OPML file content directly into the text box
  3. Click the "Import" button

The system will parse the OPML file and automatically import all feeds and their category information.

Notes:

  • If the number of feeds to import exceeds your subscription limit, the system will prompt you to upgrade to the Pro plan
  • Existing feeds will be automatically skipped
  • The original category structure will be preserved during import

Editing a Feed

You can edit feed information at any time:

  1. Find the feed you want to edit in the feed list
  2. Click the "Edit" button on the right side of the feed row
  3. In the popup dialog, modify:
    • Title: Customize the display name of the feed
    • Category: Change the category the feed belongs to
  4. Click the "Save" button

Deleting a Feed

If you no longer need a feed:

  1. Find the feed you want to delete in the feed list
  2. Click the "Delete" button on the right side of the feed row
  3. Confirm the deletion

Note: Deleting a feed will also delete all articles under that feed. This operation cannot be undone.

Category Management

The category feature helps you better organize and manage feeds:

Creating a Category

When adding a feed, you can directly enter a new category name, and the system will automatically create that category. You can also:

  1. Click the category selection box
  2. Select "Create New Category"
  3. Enter the category name
  4. Click "Create"

Editing a Category

  1. In the feed list, find a feed that uses the category
  2. Click the "Edit" button
  3. Modify the category name
  4. After saving, all feeds using that category will be updated

Batch Updating Categories

You can batch move multiple feeds to the same category:

  1. In the feed list, check the feeds you want to update
  2. Click the "Batch Operations" button
  3. Select "Update Category"
  4. Choose the target category
  5. Confirm the operation

Subscription Limits

LightRSS offers two subscription plans:

  • Free Plan: Up to 100 feeds
  • Pro Plan: Up to 1,500 feeds

At the top of the Feed Management page, you can view your current subscription usage:

  • Number of subscribed feeds / Subscription limit
  • Usage percentage progress bar
  • Warning prompts when approaching the limit

If you reach the subscription limit, you can:

  • Delete feeds you no longer need
  • Upgrade to the Pro plan to increase your subscription limit

Manually Refreshing a Feed

Although the system automatically fetches feeds periodically, you can also manually trigger a refresh:

  1. In the feed list, find the feed you want to refresh
  2. Click the "Refresh" button on the right side of the feed row

The system will immediately start fetching the latest articles from that feed.

Article Reading

Browsing the Article List

  1. Go to the Article List page (/app/feeds/articles)
  2. Articles are sorted by publication date in descending order, with the newest articles at the top
  3. Each article displays:
    • Title
    • Summary (if available)
    • Publication date
    • Source feed
    • Category tag

Searching Articles

Use the search feature to quickly find content you're interested in:

  1. Enter keywords in the search box at the top of the article list page
  2. The system will search for matches in all article titles and content
  3. Search results update in real-time

Search Tips:

  • Supports both Chinese and English search
  • Case-insensitive search
  • Can search article titles and content

Filtering Articles

You can filter articles in multiple ways:

Filter by Category

  1. Click the "Category" dropdown
  2. Select the category you want to view
  3. Select "All" to view articles from all categories

Filter by Feed

  1. Click the "Feed" dropdown
  2. Select the feed you want to view
  3. Select "All" to view articles from all feeds

Combined Filtering

You can use category and feed filters together, along with the search function, to precisely locate the articles you want.

Reading Articles

Clicking any article in the article list will open a reading panel on the right (desktop) or bottom (mobile):

  1. Desktop: Article content is displayed in a right-side drawer
  2. Mobile: Article content is displayed in a bottom drawer

The reading panel displays:

  • Article title
  • Publication date and source
  • Full article content (if included in the RSS feed)
  • Original article link button

Click the "Open Original" button to open the original article in a new tab.

Pagination

The article list supports pagination:

  1. Find the pagination controls at the bottom of the page
  2. Click page numbers or "Previous"/"Next" buttons
  3. Each page displays 20 articles by default

Account Settings

General Settings

In the Settings > General page, you can:

  • Update profile information
  • Modify display name
  • Change avatar (if supported)

Security Settings

In the Settings > Security page, you can:

  • Change password
  • Enable/disable two-factor authentication (2FA)
  • Manage logged-in devices
  • View login history

Billing Settings

In the Settings > Billing page, you can:

  • View current subscription plan
  • Upgrade to Pro plan
  • Manage payment methods
  • View billing history

Danger Zone

In the Settings > Danger Zone page, you can:

  • Delete account
  • Export data

Warning: These operations cannot be undone. Please proceed with caution.

Organization Management (Pro Feature)

If you're using the Pro plan, you can create and manage organizations:

Creating an Organization

  1. Click "New Organization" in the navigation bar
  2. Enter the organization name and identifier
  3. Complete the creation

Organization Settings

In organization settings, you can:

  • Manage organization members
  • Set up organization billing
  • Configure organization permissions

Frequently Asked Questions

What if Feed addition fails?

Possible reasons:

  • Feed URL is invalid or inaccessible
  • Feed format is incorrect
  • Subscription limit has been reached

Solutions:

  • Check if the Feed URL is correct
  • Confirm the feed is accessible
  • If you've reached the limit, consider upgrading your plan or deleting feeds you no longer need

Articles not updating?

Possible reasons:

  • The feed source itself hasn't been updated
  • Automatic fetch task hasn't run yet
  • Feed has been disabled

Solutions:

  • Manually click the "Refresh" button to trigger a fetch
  • Check if the feed is enabled
  • Confirm the Feed URL is still valid

How to export my feed list?

Currently, you can export via OPML format (if the feature is implemented). Alternatively, you can:

  • View all Feed URLs on the Feed Management page
  • Manually copy feeds you want to export

What RSS formats are supported?

LightRSS supports standard RSS 2.0 and Atom formats.

Tips and Tricks

  1. Use categories to organize feeds: Place feeds with related topics in the same category for easier management
  2. Regular cleanup: Delete feeds you no longer follow to keep your list tidy
  3. Leverage search: Use the search function to quickly find historical articles
  4. Mobile experience: On mobile devices, the reading interface automatically adapts to a bottom drawer for a better reading experience
  5. Batch operations: Use batch add and batch update features to improve management efficiency
